Good News

From Christina and Jon
The orphanage is going great. When we came back a month ago we found out that another couple at our base is now committed to helping with the orphanage too. They have been helping them with the paperwork and contractor, architecture for the new building they received a donation for. The donation is enough to build a very small one story house, but they (Justine and Marco) will be doing more fundraising in the next year to provide enough money to build the second story to the home. The home won’t be finished for another 1 1/2 years, so we are now just continuing to do our best with helping provide for their needs. Marco and Justine have gotten them some monthly food provisions for them, so that's another great blessing for the orphanage. I have really enjoyed delivering the food and helping with this support.
Also, one of the current volunteers there is training to be a preschool teacher, and because the orphanage houses so many children under 5 years old, they are actually obligated now to start some kind of preschool with the children during the week. This is exciting for us :) Also, we are able to take all of the health cards for the children 5 and under to the medi-clinic, and they will look over all of them (10 children), and see what immunizations are needed, and they will actually come with a few nurses to the orphanage and check each of the children out and give whatever is needed, and all for free! This is great news. I will let you know when they actually get around to coming to the orphanage. As for the HIV/Aids tests, they will not test the children unless upon examination they child shows signs of the disease, and this is because of the Child Protection and Privacy Laws in this country. If the older children are sick, we can walk them over to the clinic. Great news??
